Research across the full spectrum
Research in the 16 BQC groups covers a wide range of theoretical and experimental quantum science and technology, building on a long history at Basel University of research in these fields as well as in nanotechnology.
A broad focus
Our focus is on quantum computing, quantum metrology and sensing, and quantum networking, but research at BQC covers a much broader spectrum of theoretical and experimental aspects of condensed matter, atomic, molecular, and optical physics. Similarly, the quantum systems at the heart of our research range from photons, atoms, and molecules, to spin qubits, solid-state emitters, phonons, and quantum materials.

Highly collaborative research
Our research takes place in a highly interdisciplinary environment of local, regional, national and international collaborations, many of which are within networks that the BQC integrates and coordinates. BQC researchers have been successful in securing major funding, including numerous prestigious European Research Council (ERC) grants. For full lists of funded projects of each BQC PI, visit the overview page of all BQC members.
