Her research group is fascinated by the molecular dynamics found in biomolecules, and strives to investigate them experimentally at the single-molecule level using a range of biophysical techniques.

Alongside BQC member Prof. Patrick Maletinsky, Prof. Sonja Schmid is leading the joint project “Quantum sensing of biomolecules and their chemical stimuli”, which focuses on using nitrogen-vacancy (NV) centres in diamond and single-photon fluorescence readouts to perform quantum sensing of biomolecules.
