On 19 October, 250 people attended a lecture by Nobel laureate Prof. William Phillips! In this lecture, he explored the most radical transformation of the International System of Units (SI) since its origins in the French Revolution.
Following tours of the laboratories of Professors Philipp Treutlein and Stefan Willitsch, he gave an inspiring talk on the quantum-based reform of the modern metric system. Known for asking one of the first questions at any conference he attends, he encouraged our audience to do the same, and they did. The result was a lively, interactive evening: a chance to hear directly from a nobel laureate, ask plenty of questions, and continue the conversation afterwards.
Many thanks to the vbg team for inviting William Phillips to Switzerland!
